WATERTOWN – Two 2021 girls basketball state champions entered the SDHSAA Girls Class B State Tournament. Neither will repeat their titles.
Last year’s Class B champion, White River, was held to four fourth-quarter points in a 49-43 loss to Corsica-Stickney. The ‘21 Class A champion, Aberdeen Roncalli, was surprised 69-58 by Viborg-Hurley.
De Smet got by Aberdeen Christian. Faith, who lost to Wall in the regular season, never trailed in a relatively easy win.

Viborg-Hurley 69, Aberdeen Roncalli 58
Denae Mach scored 22 for Viborg-Hurley (20-4). Coral Mason added 19. Though the Cougars were out-rebounded 43-31, they made up for that by hitting 30 of 36 free throws.
Madelyn Bragg poured in 24 points with seven rebounds for Aberdeen Roncalli (22-2). Morgan Fielder scored 19. The Cavaliers hit only five of 24 three-pointers.
De Smet 52, Aberdeen Christian 44
Kennadi Buchholz fired in 28 points for De Smet (23-1) on 10-of-15 shooting and pulled down 11 rebounds. Jada Burke added 13 for the Bulldogs.
Aberdeen Christian remained close with double-doubles from sisters Mallory Miller (19 points, 12 rebounds) and Hannah Miller (12 points, 14 rebounds).
Faith 54, Wall 34
Faith’s pressure forced Wall to shoot only 19 percent from the floor. Kaycee Groves and Cassidy Schulke each scored 15 for the Longhorns (19-5). TyAnn Mortensen scored 14 with 10 rebounds.
Wall (21-3) had 11 points and 11 rebounds from Paige Kjerstad.
