About four years ago, the Avera medical team in Pierre started talking about the growing need for providing cancer treatments to people in the central part of South Dakota.
At the end of this month, the public will get to see the inside of the Avera Cancer Institute and Helmsley Center.
During a stop in Pierre this week, Avera president and CEO Bob Sutton told DRG news and farm the topic came up at his first meeting as president at Avera St. Mary’s.
Sutton says people weren’t certain the facility would get built.
President and Chief Medical Officer for Avera St. Mary’s Hospital Dr. Mikel Holland says the Helmsley Center will house their specialty services.
Construction is on schedule. A public open house for the Helmsley Center is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 30 from 11am–2pm.
