The democratic candidate for governor in South Dakota is taking heat from some in the agriculture community because his wife represented a citizen group challenging revisions of the state’s general permit for concentrated animal feeding operations.
Kelsea Sutton represented Dakota Rural Action during a hearing last week arguing—among other things– the state Department of Environment and Natural Resources hadn’t met its public involvement responsibility under the federal clean-water law.
Candidate Billie Sutton says it’s his name on the ballot.
Many would say operating a CAFO and running a ranch are two very different ways of life and Sutton says there’s room for both in South Dakota.
Sutton faces republican Kristi Noem and libertarian Kurt Evans in today’s election.
