The state Attorney General’s office is warning consumers about another fictitious shipping company attempting to scam people in South Dakota.
SD Safe Transport is the most recent fraudulent company offering to move vehicles from the seller to the buyer. Last month, the AG’s office warned of a fictitious company using the name Sioux Falls Vehicle Carriers claiming to be physically located in Sioux Falls.
Earlier this spring, the South Dakota Department of Revenue’s motor vehicle division reported a scam business by the name of South Dakota Trucks, claiming to be located in Rapid City, conducting a similar scam.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says consumers are being targeted after they purchase a vehicle from Craigslist and other online vehicle auction sites.
Anyone who has fallen victim to this scam is encouraged to contact the Consumer Protection Division in their state. South Dakota victims are encouraged to call the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division at 800-300-1986 or email: consumerhelp@state.sd.us.
