The Pierre City Commission has approved the construction contract for the remodeling and expansion of the Boys and Girls Club of the Capital Area.
City project manager Gidget Palmer says the project has a maximum cost of just over $4-million.
Palmer says Journey Group will serve as the Construction Manager at Risk, managing the project on behalf of the City of Pierre and the Boys and Girls Club. She says their job is to guarantee the construction cost and ensure all contractors meet construction expectations and deadlines.
Brosz Engineering engineer Loren Schaefer says not having the alternate features in place right away wouldn’t adversely impact the day-to-day operation of the Club.
Schaefer is confident most of the alternate items will be added.
The Pierre City Commission also approved an agreement for Capital Area Counseling Services to pay the city $180,000 per year for ten years. The Club raised $1.8 million, which the city is matching to pay for the renovations. A Community Development Block Grant provided by the State will cover the remaining $770-thousand for the project.
The Boys and Girls Club of the Capital Area project includes the demolition of the south addition of the Club. The area that is demolished will be rebuilt to include a second story. This space will include a new kitchen, programming space and offices.
The project is expected to start this summer and be completed by June 30, 2020.
