The South Dakota Department of Transportation says work to resurface a section of Highway 14 west of Pierre/Fort Pierre will begin Monday (April 27).
The contractor will be milling the existing pavement, then placing an asphalt surface overlay on Highway 14 from five miles west of Hayes to eight miles east of Hayes.
Traffic will be controlled with flaggers and a pilot car during daylight hours. Motorists should expect delays of at least 15 minutes, be aware of suddenly slowing and stopped traffic, uneven lanes and a rough driving surface until work is complete.
The milling is expected to take one week. It will be followed by resurfacing operations beginning May 4, depending on weather.
The completion date for the project is July 19.
