Based on July 1 conditions, South Dakota’s 2020 winter wheat production is forecast at 29.6 million bushels, down 26% from last year’s crop, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Average yield is forecast at 51 bushels per acre, down 1 bushels from 2019. Area to be harvested for grain is estimated at 580,000 acres,
down 25% from a year ago.
Other spring wheat crop is forecast at 33.4 million bushels, up 28% from last year. Average yield is forecast at 41 bushels per acre, down 2 bushels from 2019. Area to be harvested for grain is estimated at 815,000 acres, up 35% from a year ago.
Oat production is forecast at 9.20 million bushels, up 50% from last year. Average yield is forecast at 80 bushels per acre, down 2 bushels from 2019. Area to be harvested for grain is estimated at 115,000 acres, up 53% from a year ago.
