RAPID CITY – Post 8 had its biggest offensive outing of the year Friday in their third straight win at the Veterans’ Classic, pounding the Post 406 Flyers of Billings, Montana, 20-6. Later, the Eights dropped a 5-2 decision to Rapid City Post 22.
Leading 6-5 game against the 406 Flyers after four innings, Post 8 broke the game open with five runs in the fifth and nine in the sixth. The Eights had 19 hits. Lincoln Kienholz went four-for-four with a double and two RBI. Jack Van Camp had three hits. Garrett Stout, Andrew Coverdale and Matt Lusk each had two hits. River Iverson drove in three runs. Kienholz, Van Camp and Cade Hinkle had two RBI apiece. Elliot Leif won in relief of starter Bennett Dean. Leif allowed just a run and two hits in four innings, striking out four.
In the loss to Post 22, Post 8 scored a first-inning run on an Andy Gordon RBI double but was limited to five hits overall. Their other run came on a Kienholz RBI fielder’s choice in the sixth inning. Van Camp allowed four runs and five hits in five innings and struck out four, but also walked five.
Post 8 is now 23-14. They will play Gillette (WY) on Saturday at 2:00 PM CT, then are assured of playing a game in the final day of the Veterans’ Classic on Sunday.
