FREMONT, NE – Poor pitching and defense put the Pierre Trappers in a bind from which they couldn’t recover Friday in a 13-6 loss to the Fremont Moo. Pierre pitching gave up 12 hits and 11 walks, while the defense committed five errors. An error prolonged a second-inning four-run rally that put Fremont ahead to stay. Ronnie McBride hit a three-run homer to give the Moo a 5-1 lead.
Trappers’ starter Michael Newman (1-1) allowed eight runs (five earned) in three and a third innings, with six hits and three walks. Micah Stroh hit a three-run double in the fifth for the Trappers to cut the Fremont lead to 9-6, but the Moo scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the eighth. Nick Grossman had four hits and an RBI for the Trappers.
Pierre is 9-13 and will again play at Fremont Saturday night at 7:05 before hosting the Moo at Hyde Stadium Sunday afternoon at 2:05 and Monday night at 7:05.
