PIPESTONE, MN – Pierre Varsity Softball ended its regular season on September 27 with a 6-5 win over Lennox followed by a 2-2 tie with Pipestone (MN), despite missing five varsity players due to quarantine.
One of the JV players called up to the varsity, Dani Beck, drew a bases-loaded walk to force home the winning run in the bottom of the sixth in the victory over Lennox. Maya Shorter was three-for-three with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Kara Weiss and Ena Fredericksen each had two hits. Kenzie Gronlund was the winning pitcher, striking out six while allowing just five hits.
In the tie with Pipestone, Pierre trailed 2-0 but then tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Kayleigh Dueis and an RBI double by Jenna Bucholz.
Pierre will compete this weekend in the Class B state tournament at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls. Their first game will be against either Tea Area or Tri-Valley at 11:00 AM on Saturday.
