PIERRE – Last season, the Pierre Governors won their third straight 11AA state championship with a win over Brookings at Dana. J. Dykhuis Stadium. Friday night, those teams will play again on the same field. Pierre is 4-1 after a 35-13 win over Huron last week. Brookings improved to 6-0 with a come-from-behind 44-25 win at Mitchell.
Governor Head Coach Steve Steele said that his team received what it expected from Huron.
Steele was glad Pierre topped Huron, although the game wasn’t exactly played perfectly.
Pierre had at least five holding penalties last week. How can that be avoided?
Maguire Raske and Lincoln Kienholz continue to star for the Pierre offense, but Steele said that others have to contribute.
Steele said that the Governors’ defense was very good against the Tigers.
Steele said that Brookings’ excellent running back, Josh Buri, will carry the ball for the Bobcats as Raske does for Pierre.
Both teams, according to Steele, play a straightforward, pounding style of offense.
Steele said that Brookings’ defense is based to stop the running game.
This game, said Steele, should be very entertaining.
Friday night’s game can be heard on the official voice of the Pierre Governors, River 92.7, at 6:30 with Brian Oakland. Live and archived streaming video will be available at the River 92.7 page at drgnews.com.
