GROTON – Stanley County’s defense registered its fourth shutout of the season and Lathan Prince scored the game’s only touchdown in the second quarter Friday as the Buffaloes shut out Groton Area 6-0 at Doney Field.
Prince scored on a 6-yard run with 6:26 left in the first half to complete a 70-yard drive for Stanley County (5-2). Groton Area (2-6) drove to the SC 4-yard line in the last minute, but a knockdown in the end zone prevented what would have been a tying touchdown pass on fourth down.
Featured Stanley County running back Evan Nordstrom did not return to the game after being injured in the third quarter. He had to be helped off the field after a running play.
Stanley County clinched its third winning season in the last four years and will have a home game Thursday in the first round of the 11B playoffs. The eighth-seed Buffaloes will host ninth-seed McCook Central/Montrose at Ole Williamson Field in Fort Pierre.
