Last night Walworth And Campbell counties did rather good playing high school football. The Herreid Selby Area Wolverines scored early and often against Colman Egan. Tray Hettick score a touchdown with 10:33 left in the first quarter going in from a yard out. The Wolverines attached the 2 point conversion, and the score was 8 nothing going into the second quarter. With 4:43 left in the second quarter Brenden Begeman went on a 70 yard touchdown run and again the Wolverines put the 2 point conversion on the board to take the lead at halftime of 16 to nothing. It didn’t take long for Herreid Selby Area to score again as the clock was at 9:04 in the third when Brenden Begeman ran in a 32 yard touchdown and again they added two more, The last score happening with 5:11 left in the game as Trey Sayler went on a 33 yard scamper for 6 more. The Wolverines are headed to the semifinals of the State 9B State Championship playoffs. The Wolverines had 333 yards of total offense and gave up 243 yards to Colman Egan. Brenden Begeman had 218 yards on 18 carries and Tray Hettick was 7 of 9 for 60 yards through the air. Wolsey Wessington will now come to Herreid Selby Area on Friday for the game to decide who will play in the championship. On the other side of the bracket is number one seed Kadoka Area hosting number 5 seed Dell Rapids St. Mary.
The other Walworth and Campbell County squad that did well last night was the Mobridge Pollock Tigers. The Tigers beat the St. Thomas More Cavaliers last night to earn a trip to the Semifinals. The Tigers got the first score of the game as Caden Eisemann hit Bryston Goehring on a 40 yard touchdown pass with 4:59 left in the first quarter. The Tigers tacked on the PAT and took a 7 to nothing lead into the second quarter. St. Thomas More would get on the board by Jack Green’s 30 yard field goal. After one half the score was Tigers 7, Cavaliers 3. In the third quarter Cayden Eisemann hot Bryston Goehring again, this time for a 18 yard touchdown and after the PAT Mobridge Pollock led 14 to 3. That Eisemann to Goehring connection hooked up again in the fourth quarter this time for a 28 yard pitch and catch and after the PAT was missed the score went to 20 to 3.
St. Thomas More score the last touchdown of the game as Jed Sullivan hit Trey Herrboldt for a 54 yard touchdown. They missed the PAT and the final score was Mobridge Pollock 20, St. Thomas More 9. The Tigers had 418 yards of total offense and held St. Thomas More to 216 yards. Cayden Eisemann was 20 of 41 for 382 yards through the air and three touchdowns. Jed Sullivan was 10 of 19 for 166 yard and a touchdown for St. Thomas More’s passing attack. The final pairings for the semifinals are set now and Mobridge Pollock will be in Bridgewater Emery Ethan on Friday in the number tow vs. number three seed match up. Number 1 Winner will host number 4 Sioux Valley. Winners of these game will meet up in the State Championship game.
Ipswich Edmunds Central’s hope for a trip to the Dome has ended last night in Warner. The Warner Monarchs pulled out a close will against The Ipswich Edmunds Central Tigers 20 to 14. Lemmon McIntosh defeated Florence Henry 28 to 22 to earn a trip into the semifinals against Hamlin.
