English is one of the hardest languages to learn… that’s why I speak gibberish every day. The reason folks struggle to learn our language is all the slang and uncommon phraseology we use. I catch myself using all kinds of phrases that a foreigner would just shake their head about! The other day I stumbled across this article by Boredpanda that talked about 30 misused phrases in the English Language. Here were the top five I use on the norm.
- We say “Butt Naked”… It should be “Buck naked”
- We say “Expresso”… It should be Espresso (I mess this one up all the time!)
- We say “Nip it in the butt”… It should be “Nip it in the Bud”
- We say “Shoe-in”… It should be “Shoo-in” (It’s an old racehorse reference)
- We say “Piece of mind”… It should be “Peace of mind”
Bonus one: We say “In the same vote”… It should be “In the same boat.”
Do you find yourself messing up these phrases or am I the only weirdo out here?
