When I was a kid, my brothers and I were outside all summers long. If we weren’t helping dad at the sand and gravel mine, we were in our backyard or at the lake. We would go on pirate adventures, jump on the tramp, play soccer, golf, bring tadpoles and frogs home, and many other things. We had so many great memories outside. My parents would have to figuratively drag us into the house.
According to SWNS, the average kid gets bored after playing outside for 30 minutes. The biggest blame for this is the computers we carry in our pockets called phones. Kids would rather be on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Twitch, or video games than enjoying the fresh air. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to be on them as well, but we only get so many nice days around here. Why waste them on your phone.
This same article says 72% of parents say their families don’t spend enough time outside. I get it! Life is busy. My family would go on nightly walks or bike rides or we were at ball fields all weekend long. We had a blast and I challenge you this summer to put down the phone and enjoy everything our beautiful state has to offer.
