PIERRE – Tyler Skelton scored the winning run on an 11th-inning error by Hastings as the Pierre Trappers won the season opener in the Expedition League over the Sodbusters 5-4 at Hyde Stadium.
A wild pitch by Hastings’ Rans Sanders had tied the game earlier in the inning. This was after Hastings had scored in the top of the 11th to take a 4-3 lead.
Kaiden Cordoso gave Pierre a 1-0 lead with a second inning home run. Brock Rinehart made it 2-0 Trappers in the fifth with an RBI single before the Sodbusters scored single runs in the eighth and ninth.
Hastings scored in the top of the 10th, but Pierre answered with an RBI double by Braeden Cordes.
Cordoso was the winning pitcher in relief, striking out four in two innings. Starter Nick McCollum struck out 12 in five scoreless innings, allowing only two hits. Overall, Trappers pitching recorded 21 strikeouts.
