A welcome home ceremony is scheduled for about 190 soldiers with the South Dakota Army National Guard’s 196th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade at Augustana University’s Elmen Center in Sioux Falls tomorrow (July 1) at 3:30pm.
The soldiers are returning home after serving on a 10-month deployment to Djibouti in support of Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, where the unit has been conducting operations to enhance partner nation capacity, promote regional security and stability, dissuade conflict, and protect U.S. and coalition interests in the region.
The public is encouraged to attend. The ceremony will also be live streamed for public viewing via Facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/SouthDakotaNationalGuard.
Planned speakers for the ceremony include Gov. Kristi Noem, Maj. Gen. Jeff Marlette, SDNG adjutant general, and Col. David Dailey, 196th commander.
The unit arrived in the United States on June 24 and has been completing demobilization requirements at Fort Hood, Texas, before returning to South Dakota.
