Walworth County jail opt-out plan approved and referred to a vote

After hearing and discussing Walworth County Commissioner Kevin Holgard’s proposed plan to turn the Mobridge ShopKo building into a “behavorial and modification facility”, the commission on Thursday approved the opt-out plan and referred it to a vote of the people of Walworth County.

Walworth County State’s Attorney Jamie Hare clarified the reason for the opt-out.

Hare told the commission they need to consider the escalating cost of transporting prisoners.

An election date was not set at Thursday’s commission meeting.
