PIERRE – Fischer Rausch has spent much of this season pitching in tough luck for the Pierre Trappers. On Thursday, he made his own good luck.
Rausch pitched the first no-hitter in Trappers’ history and the third in the history of the Expedition League as Pierre shut out the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks 5-0 at Hyde Stadium.
Wheat City wasn’t without some traffic on the bases, as Rausch walked four and hit a batter and Pierre committed two errors. However, Rausch struck out 10, including Nolan Lingley to end the game and make history.
Rausch (2-3), who pitches collegiately at Southeast Missouri State, hadn’t gone beyond five innings in any of his previous five starts. He threw 119 pitches, 76 for strikes.
Richie Williams gave Rausch the only runs he needed with a two-run single in the second inning. Ty Stauss had a two-run single and Nick Strong added an RBI single in the seventh.
The other two Expedition League no-hitters were by Bradley Spooner of Souris Valley against Wheat City on July 5, 2019 and Shay Schanaman of Hastings against Western Nebraska on July 19, 2020.
