At approximately 2:27 this (July 16, 2021) morning, the Codington County Sheriff’s Office was advised that parole absconder Anthony Alden, age 31, of Aberdeen was possibly headed toward Watertown in a stolen vehicle.
A Codington County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a Toyota Highlander traveling Southbound on SD Highway 20 near Florence. The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle when it began to accelerate and flee at a high rate of speed. The deputy began a pursuit which headed toward the northwest side of Watertown. The Watertown Police Department set up spike strips in two locations on the highway and both were successful. As the vehicle slowed it turned into a residential driveway on North Lake Drive and continued into the back yard of a residence where the vehicle came to a stop on the shore of Lake Kampeska. Two occupants fled on foot. The driver, Duran American Horse, age 30, of Aberdeen was apprehended, however Alden is still at large. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and white shorts.
American Horse was arrested for Grand Theft, DUI 3rd offense, Aggravated Eluding, Ingesting a Controlled Drug or Substance, Intentional Damage to Property, Obstruction, Speeding and Reckless Driving. Further charges are pending.
The Codington County Sheriff’s Office is asking people in Watertown to lock and remove keys from your vehicles and to notify law enforcement if you see Alden. He is wanted on a parole violation and has active felony arrest warrants. Alden is wanted out of Aberdeen as well.
