UPDATE AUG. 23, 2021:
State prison inmate Darrell Hoffpauir is back in custody.
Hoffpauir was arrested in Sioux Falls Aug. 23. He was placed on escape status Aug. 16 when he failed to return to the Sioux Falls Community Work Center from his work release job.
Hoffpauir is currently serving concurrent sentences for third-degree burglary from Lincoln County and for possession of a controlled substance from Minnehaha County.

State prison inmate Darrell Hoffpauir has been placed on escape status.
Hoffpauir left the Sioux Falls Community Work Center to go to his work release job Aug. 16, 2021. He failed to return to the unit at the appointed time. He is currently serving concurrent sentences for third-degree burglary from Lincoln County and for possession of a controlled substance from Minnehaha County.
Hoffpauir, age 45, is a white male. He has brown hair and blue eyes. He is 6-feet-6-inches tall and weighs approximately 250 pounds.
Failure to return to custody following an assignment or temporary leave granted for a specific purpose or limited period constitutes second-degree escape, a Class 5 felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
