PIERRE – Pierre Governor Football is 2-1, but their 21-6 victory last Saturday against Sturgis came with an effort that the Governors admit was less than their best. Pierre didn’t score an offensive touchdown until Lincoln Kienholz ran for two scores in the fourth quarter. This Friday, the Governors will meet the winless Douglas Patriots in Box Elder.
Governor Head Coach Steve Steele is glad to know that his team can win games like the one last Saturday, but doesn’t want to see that repeated.
Steele said that Sturgis’ defense helped show area where Pierre’s offense must improve.
Steele hopes his team now understands that having the attitude of “we can just show up and win” won’t work.
Lineman Jason Maciejczak of Douglas could be an All-State player. Steele said his team must keep track of him always, especially if he lines up to run the ball.
The Governors will face a Douglas team that has been shut out in all three of their games so far.
Steele was asked what Pierre must do to win.
Pierre and Douglas will play Friday in Box Elder. Coverage will begin at 6:30 on The Official Voice of the Pierre Governors, River 92.7. Live and archived video will be available at the River 92.7 page at the DRG News app and at drgnews.com.
