Mayo Clinic researchers say you shouldn’t choose between the two: Sleep and exercise are like food and water. Not only are both necessary, but it’s difficult to get healthy doses of one without the other. But if you have to choose one or the other, go with sleep because it’s foundational. Lots of people think they can operate on less than 7 to 8 hours of sleep, but when tested they don’t perform at their best.
