PIERRE – Pierre Governor Girls Basketball had a 10-point lead during the first half of their game with the defending AA champion Washington Warriors Saturday at the Riggs High Gym. But, Washington then rallied, led by their future Power Five player.
University of Texas commit Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda scored 11 of her team-high 17 points in the second half Saturday to lead Washington past Pierre 65-58 for the Warriors’ 23rd straight win, dating back to January of last year. Alexus Motley had 13 for the Warriors, including nine in the second half. Taylor Thompson scored 11, including nine on three three-pointers in the third quarter. That quarter saw a 10-0 Washington run that gave the visitors the lead for good. Brooklyn Harpe scored 10 with 12 rebounds.
Ayvrie Kaiser led Pierre (2-4) with a career-high 18 points, with 13 coming in the first half. Remington Price scored 16 with four three-pointers. Reese Terwilliger scored a career-high 14 points.
Washington shot 61% from the floor, helped by 68% shooting in the second half.
