SIOUX FALLS – Several Central South Dakota boys wrestlers remain in contention for individual titles at the SDHSAA State Wrestling Tournament at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
120-pound Stanley County wrestler Chase Hanson made the semifinals Thursday in Class B with a third-period pin over Brayden Wiese of Flandreau and a 5-2 decision over Teague Granum of Canton.
Noah Hutmacher of Chamberlain is in the Class A boys 195-pound semifinal following a major decision win over Jaxon Morrison of Rapid City Central and an 8-1 decision over Pierre’s Gavin Stotts.
Teagan Herrick and Kellan Hurd of Miller/Highmore-Harrold made semifinals in their weight classes.
Five Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes wrestlers have made the Class B semifinals: Gavin Braun, Chase Varilek, Carter Lenz and Grayson Hanson.
Two made it to the semis from Philip: Kipp Cordes and Burk Blasius.
Six Winner wrestlers are also in the semifinals: Maxton Brozik, Kaleb Osborn, Kaden Keiser (now 54-0 this season), Riley Orel (now 45-0) and Achilles Williuweit. Keiser’s second win was the 281st of his career, breaking the previous state record of Rapid City Stevens’ Jarrett Jensen.
In the Class B team standings through Thursday, Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes and Winner shared second with 66 points, 14 points behind leader Canton. Philip was fourth with 52.
