UPDATE APRIL 5, 2022:
A 58 year old man from De Smet has been identified as the person who died early Saturday morning (April 2, 2022) in a one-vehicle crash two miles west of De Smet.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates Michael Harger was driving a 2004 Ford F250 pickup westbound on U.S. Highway 14 when he lost control due to icy road conditions. The vehicle went across the roadway into the north ditch and rolled. Harger, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
