A 46 year old man from Manderson, South Dakota, convicted of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender has received his punishment from Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court.
James Shawn Jumping Eagle was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $100 in special assessments to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The conviction stemmed from Jumping Eagle failing to register as a sex offender as required by federal law between February 9, 2021, and February 20, 2021. Jumping Eagle had previously been convicted of a sex offense in federal court, which required him to register for the rest of his life.
This case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service.
