Medical providers may have to call in lawyers if they have a patient with a troubled pregnancy or delivery.
Hannah Haksgaard, a professor at the Knudson School of Law at the University of South Dakota, says the state’s trigger law has many restrictions.
Haksgaard says doctors and the hospitals they work with will have to have more legal guidance.
Haksgaard says those consultations may result in treatment delays and extra costs.
The additional restrictions became effective when the US Supreme Court rolled back the Roe v Wade abortion protections.
