Feeding South Dakota, the state’s largest hunger-relief organization, is encouraging South Dakota communities to take action in the fight against hunger during the month of September. The organization’s Hunger Action Month campaign is an opportunity to ensure food is not an impossible choice for the nearly 75,000 individuals experiencing food insecurity in South Dakota.
The month of September has been officially recognized as Hunger Action Month in the state by South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem through an Executive Proclamation.
“During this unprecedented time, we are helping more families than before put food on the table,” said Lori Dykstra, CEO of Feeding South Dakota. “These families are faced with impossible choices between food or other needs like medicine, utilities, or childcare. Ending hunger in South Dakota will take all of us working together to accomplish.”
The organization, serving all 66 counties in the state of South Dakota, encourages people join the fight against hunger by:
- Donating funds to support the mission.
- Volunteering to help sort and pack food at a distribution center or distribute food at a mobile food distribution site.
- Educating themselves and others about hunger in South Dakota.
- Advocating through The Campaign to End Hunger.
