It’s Friday, and that means Feel Good Friday stories to share.
1. A rodeo bull jumped into the stands at an event in Redding, California back in May and injured six people. One of them was a 25-year-old named Paige King, who got trampled. But it ended up being a GOOD thing. Emergency room doctors did a C.T. scan to make sure she didn’t have any serious internal injuries . . . and ended up finding THYROID CANCER. Luckily, they caught it early, and she’s undergoing treatment.
2. Here’s how you win your next reelection: A small-town mayor in Georgia named Eddie Daniels saw an SUV stalled on a set of train tracks on Saturday, and ended up saving the driver and all three of her kids. He got the mom out, and then saw three kids in the back seat . . . aged one, three, and six. He got the last kid out just as a train hit. Eddie ended up with a broken ankle and eight stitches in his head, but everyone else is okay.
3. Eight skydivers in Florida broke a world record by doing a synchronized jump where they all held hands in a circle. Eight wouldn’t normally be a lot, but all of them are over the age of 80. The previous record for their age group was six.
4. The Coast Guard rescued three guys off the coast of Louisiana on Sunday, and just in the nick of time. Their boat sank Saturday morning, and they’d been bobbing up and down in the water in life jackets for a day. It was just in time, because they were actively being attacked by SHARKS when the Coast Guard showed up. Two of them suffered bites on their hands, but they all survived. (Here’s the rescue footage, but you can’t see the sharks.)
5. An 18-year-old horse named Mongo is back home after running away and spending the last eight years living with wild mustangs in Utah. The owner says Mongo hasn’t changed and had no problem being saddled up. He’s just thin.
6. A Facebook group called “DNA Detectives” helped a 33-year-old Pittsburgh woman find her birth father. He had no idea she existed, or that he had two grandkids. They met up two weeks ago and will spend Thanksgiving together.
7. A 23-year-old named Chris Nikic just became the first person with Down syndrome to complete an Ironman race. That’s a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and then a full 26.2-mile marathon. He finished in 16 hours and 31 minutes, with almost a full half-hour to spare before the 17-hour cutoff.
8. North Dakota State College of Science has a football team. And they’re in the news because they’ve got a player this year who’s 49 years old. His name is Ray Ruschel, and he’s a defensive lineman. He spent almost two decades in the Army and National Guard before going back to school to study business management. The last time he played football was his senior year of high school more than 30 years ago.
9. A woman in Fort Myers lost her engagement ring outside her house and spent two days looking for it. Then Hurricane Ian hit, so she gave up hope. But her husband was cleaning up after the storm last week, and found it in a pile of sticks.
10. A kid in Illinois who’d spent his whole life in the hospital finally got to go home on Tuesday. His name is Francesco Bruno, and he’ll turn three in a few months. He has a rare condition called skeletal dysplasia that affects his ribs and keeps his lungs from developing. But he’s in a spot now where he doesn’t need constant medical care anymore. All his nurses and doctors showed up to see him off.
11. A single mom in Australia was living out of her car with her six-year-old son, and posted on Facebook asking for help finding a safe place to park and sleep at night. But instead of helping, a few heartless jerks responded with THREATS. One woman did step up to help though. A therapist named Claire Orange invited them to stay with her in her home, and also started a GoFundMe campaign. It hit over $20,000 before they closed off donations.
12. The Animal Rescue League of Boston saved a six-month-old kitten seen wandering down the street with a round, glass lightshade on its head. They named her Buzz Lightyear, because it looked like an astronaut’s helmet. She’ll go up for adoption in a week or so. (Here’s a video.)
