Let’s enjoy some Feel Good Friday stories from the past week.
1. A high school senior named Bella Rasmussen just became the first girl in California state history to score two touchdowns in a varsity football game. She’s a running back, and also plays defensive end.
2. A 24-year-old penguin named “Beach Donkey” recently got her own pair of custom shoes. They help with a condition called bumblefoot, which is age-related. In the wild, penguins only live 10 to 15 years. She didn’t want to walk in them at first, so they gave her incentive by letting her wander around the aquarium and see the other exhibits. 3. An eight-year-old girl in Philadelphia named Savannah Brown has alopecia and lost all her hair. So her entire family shaved their heads in solidarity.
4. A 2022 Mustang Shelby worth $112,000 just raised over $1 MILLION at a charity auction for hurricane relief. Most of the money came from two people. A guy paid $400,000 but gave the car back, then it resold for another $300,000.
5. A YouTuber named Mark Rober just posted a third installment of his obstacle course for squirrels. It’s called Backyard Squirrelympics 3.0 and it was the top trending video on YouTube last we checked.
6. A 64-year-old guy spent three years creating a full-body floating suit made out of 1,150 wine corks . . . all so he could surprise his family with it during a recent trip to Lake Michigan. He thought they’d think he was nuts, but they loved it. There’s a video of them all trying it out. (Here’s the video.)
7. A poll asked people to name the best things about adopting a pet from a shelter. The top answers include: You’ve changed their life forever . . . you may have saved them from being put down . . . and you have a new best friend.
8. A 12-year-old artist from Iowa named Arsh Pal has been selling his paintings to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. He started four years ago and hoped to raise $1,000. He’s now raised over 15 grand.
9. A 59-year-old in Virginia named Todd Rowan was walking on the beach with his wife this month when he had a heart attack. But two surfers did CPR and saved him. One was a guy named Tyler Volpe who works as a physician’s assistant. Todd got to meet up with him the other day to thank him in person.
10. Have you been following the story about the coal miner who showed up to a University of Kentucky basketball game last weekend? He came straight from work to be there with his son and was COVERED in coal dust. (Here’s a photo.) The team was touched by it, and offered free tickets to any game this season. He chose their upcoming game against Kansas in January. A bunch of businesses in Lexington also offered his family free meals and a hotel room while they’re in town.
11. A kid in Raleigh, North Carolina was fighting cancer six years ago, and designed a haunted house from his hospital bed. Now he puts it on every year to raise money for a charity called Give Kids the World.
12. A whole community in Carolina Beach, North Carolina gathered on Tuesday to celebrate a woman’s 100th birthday. They sang “Happy Birthday” while she watched from her balcony . . . the mayor gave her a key to the city . . . and they declared that October 25th will forever be “Marie Underwood Day”.
13. A former high school football star from Alabama lost his two championship rings when they slipped off his finger at a Mardi Gras parade six years ago. But a random guy with a metal detector just found them and tracked him down.
14. An 80-year-old doctor named Glenn Geelhoed is set to run his 45th Marine Corps marathon in D.C. this weekend. He does it to raise money for his nonprofit called Mission to Heal that donates medical supplies.
