It’s Giving Tuesday, when you’re encouraged to donate and volunteer. A recent poll for it found 93% of us think of ourselves as generous. So get out there and prove it.
According to Google, here are the top questions we’ve been asking about it . . .
1. “When is Giving Tuesday?” Always the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It sort of piggy backs on top of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
2. “What is Giving Tuesday?” Instead of buying stuff for yourself, it’s about being generous and donating. The first Giving Tuesday was in 2012, so today marks the 10th anniversary. More than 85 countries are involved now. Americans alone gave about $2.7 BILLION last year.
3. “How to set up Giving Tuesday on Facebook?” That’s one way people donate. Just go to Facebook.com/Fundraisers, and it walks you through it. You can choose a charity to give to, or start a fundraiser and get friends to donate.
4. “Is Facebook matching Giving Tuesday?” Yes, but they changed it up this year . . . and it might already be over. They usually match the first few million bucks people donate, and always hit that number within SECONDS.
This year, they’re doing it with RECURRING donations. So people who sign up to donate monthly could have it matched after their second monthly payment. The hope is it’ll help charities keep bringing in money, even after the holidays. Facebook capped the total amount they’ll give at $7 million this year. They’re matching up to $100 per donation, and up to $100,000 per nonprofit.
