Reporting for its 18th year on baby names data, BabyCenter looked into the biggest baby name trends this year and discovered a boost in popularity for the name Dakota this year. The name is seemingly part of The Wild West baby name trend that emerged in 2022.
Names like Dakota, Dutton, Stetson and Wyatt are the new sheriffs in town, and they aren’t just passing through. Babies named after states with cowboy culture are seeing a boost: “Cowboy culture” state names like Dakota are up big-time this year for both girls and boys this year. Let’s not forget Montana, Texas, and Arizona, all of which are also on the rise for boys and girls.
‘Yellowstone’ is having serious impact: With the massive success of Kevin Costner’s ‘Yellowstone’, we can see why names of The Wild West are having a big moment. Dutton shot up more than 1,800 spots, while Kayce and Rip followed, gaining 500 and 300 spots respectively. Wyatt is now the most popular Wild West baby name, claiming the 16th spot in the top 100 baby names across the country.
