Nathan J. Stanley from Horace, ND, faces charges after a search in Roberts County over the weekend (Jan. 8, 2023).
Stanley got stuck on a country road, walked several miles to a home for help and may have been suffering from hypothermia. The residents took him in, fed him, and attempted to bring him to meet the Roberts County Sheriff’s Department, but he took off on foot from the vehicle.
Deputies were dispatched to the rural Claire City area. The residents stated after speaking with Stanley that they believed the man was under the influence of alcohol. Stanley fled down an unplowed road, and a search began. The Claire City Fire Department and the two residents helped search for Stanley, who had walked several miles. Following footprints in the snow, he was eventually apprehended.
Stanley was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI 4th Offense (drug impairment), no valid driver’s license, no insurance, obstruction, open container in a motor vehicle, and obstruction. Stanley was also on probation out of Minnesota for several drug-related charges.
