The South Dakota Legislature returns this morning (Jan. 17, 2023) for day 5of the 38-day 98th Legislative Session.
At 7:45 a.m. (CT), the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee will consider a bill to end the Department of Game, Fish, and Park’s ability to confiscate fishing equipment from those who illegally catch fish. The department asked the committee to introduce the measure, House Bill 1018.
Also, at 7:45 a.m. (CT), the Senate Judiciary Committee will consider a bill that would exempt inmate disciplinary matters from public view and copying.
At 10 a.m. (CT), the Senate Commerce and Energy Committee is scheduled to consider a bill that would provide 13 million dollars to expand laboratory space at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in the former Homestake Mine in Lead.
The Joint Appropriations Committee will consider the state Department of Social Services budget in the morning and afternoon.
At 2 p.m. (CT), the Senate is scheduled to consider a commemoration celebrating South Dakota University’s national football championship in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision.
