South Dakota Legislators have a busy Friday (Jan. 20, 2023) as they wrap up the week and head back to their home districts for the weekend.
At 7:45 a.m. (CT), the House State Affairs Committee is set to consider an amendment to the state constitution that would require a general election to occur before another initiated constitutional amendment on the same or similar topic can be circulated. (HJR 5001)
The committee will also consider a bill requiring the state motor pool to use E-30 (30% ethanol blend) in all vehicles that can use it. (HB 1066)
At 10 a.m. (CT), the House Commerce and Energy committee that would add mental health professionals and counselors to the list of health care workers that a non-compete agreement cannot restrict. (HB 1087)
Also at 10 a.m. (CT), the Senate State Affairs Committee will consider a bill that would have the Legislature’s Executive Board approve a legislator’s travel if they are in the second year of their term and are not returning for the next session. (SB 68)
In another 10 a.m. (CT), the Senate Local Government Committee will consider a bill that would change the requirements to petition to move a county seat to a different location. (SB 56).
The House and Senate go into session an hour early at 1 a.m. (CT). The House is again scheduled to consider a bill to provide $150 million in housing infrastructure loans and grants. (SB 41).
