BRANDON – Many expected the Pierre Governors to have a tight game Thursday with the Brandon Valley Lynx. In fact, the game couldn’t have been tighter.
Cole Dekker put back a missed shot just before the final buzzer to give Brandon Valley a 53-52 win over Pierre Thursday at Brandon Valley High School.
Lincoln Kienholz had given the Governors (6-3) their last lead at 52-51 with a layup with 15 seconds left. Nate VandeBerg then missed a left-wing jumper for the Lynx (7-2) before Dekker, in mid-air, followed the miss from the right baseline, releasing the shot with two-tenths of a second left. It marked the last of 17 lead changes in the game.
Jackson Edman led Pierre with 16 points. Kienholz scored 13. Brecken Krueger scored 12 points on four three-pointers.
Lucas Morgan scored 18 for Brandon Valley (7-2). Landon Dulaney added 13 points.
