With Legislative Day 11 today (Jan. 25, 2023), the South Dakota Legislature is nearly 30% through its scheduled 38-day run.
At 7:45 a.m. (CT), the House State Affairs Committee is scheduled to take up two joint resolutions.
One resolution requests that January 6th defendants currently being held in jail in Washington, DC, awaiting trial be treated humanely. (HCR 6006). The committee is also to consider a resolution that would place a constitutional amendment on the ballot to allow a person to refuse any treatment or injections without repercussions. (HJR 5003)
At 9 a.m., the House Education Committee will hear from Dr. Brian Maher, the executive director of the Board of Regents.
At 2 p.m., the House is scheduled to consider a bill prohibiting a doctor from issuing a medical marijuana card to a pregnant or breastfeeding woman. (HB 1053).
Also, at 2 p.m., the Senate is scheduled to take a bill that would repeal the requirement for an annual report by the Board of Regents regarding intellectual diversity and the free exchange of ideas. (SB 45)
