This couple is facing the internet’s wrath right now. Does this seem fun and clever to you, or just risky?
Ty and Haley Kelly live in Florida, and run a popular TikTok channel where they post videos about their kids. But they’ve been catching heat for a hack they came up with to get their young son Kannon on more rides at Disney World.
They essentially added lifts to his shoes to give him the extra inch or two needed to hit 38 inches, so he could go on the more adult rides. They cut the tops off some flip-flops and stuck the soles to the bottom of his shoes with Gorilla Glue. (Here’s a photo.)
Some people immediately said they’re the BEST PARENTS EVER . . . while others claim it’s basically child endangerment.
There’s a reason you can’t go on some rides until you’re tall enough. The safety restraints aren’t meant for someone that small. Or as a person in the comments put it, they made special shoes to help their kid “FLY OFF ROLLER COASTERS.”
There’s been so much backlash, Ty posted a follow-up video defending himself . . . and revealed Kannon actually IS tall enough for the rides, even in normal shoes.
He measured him on camera to prove it. So it turns out they did the whole thing just to go viral. He didn’t actually need the lifts.
Still, other parents might try it now. But for what it’s worth, it sounds like this isn’t a totally new idea.
Someone claiming to be a former Disney employee weighed in and said it happens sometimes. That’s why they’re trained to look at kids’ shoes to make sure they haven’t been tampered with.
