BROOKINGS – Barret Schweitzer capped a rally with his second goal of the game nearly midway through the third period Friday to give the Oahe Capitals a 4-3 victory over Sioux Falls 2 in the first round of the SDAHA Boys Varsity State Tournament at Larson Ice Arena.
Ashton Griese, who had tied the game nearly three minutes earlier with a powerplay goal, set up Schweitzer’s go-ahead goal with 9:42 remaining to give Oahe its first lead of the game.
Schweitzer also scored in the second period for the Capitals (19-3-0-1) and Andre Carbonneau scored with 22 seconds left in the middle period to tie the game 2-2.
Ashton Eining’s second goal of the game gave the Flyers a 3-2 lead at 2:48 of the third period.
Oahe outshot Sioux Falls 2 58-21. Colin Lee made 18 saves.
The Capitals will play Saturday at 4:30 PM in the second semifinal against the two-time defending state champion Brookings Rangers.
