UNDATED (AP)- Planned Parenthood is shifting funding to its state affiliates and cutting national office staff. The group says this reflects a changed landscape in how abortion is provided and how battles over access are playing out. The group told The Associated Press about the changes on Tuesday (May 23, 2023). Planned Parenthood provides abortion, along with contraception, cancer screening, gender-affirming care and other health services. The group aims to boost services both in states with abortion bans and those where access is legal. It’s also working on improving health care for Black people and increasing state-level political work. The shift follows a Supreme Court decision last year (2022) that opened the door for states to enforce abortion bans.
