SIOUX FALLS – Central South Dakota had more winners and more records fell Friday in the second day of the SDHSAA State Track & Field Championships at Howard Wood FIeld.
Three area athletes won in field events, including Pierre’s Jason Maciejczak in the AA boys shot put. Maciejczak extended his personal best and school record mark to 61 feet, 11 and three quarter inches. Brenden Begeman of Herreid/Selby Area captured the Class B boys shot put at 51 feet, nine and a half inches. Burke’s Paige Bull won the Class B girls discus with a throw of 123 feet, two inches.
Sioux Falls Christian set its third meet record in two days with Isaac Davelaar winning the Class A boys 800 meters in 1:51.11, two seconds faster than the former classification record.
State record holder Gracelyn Leiseth of Hamlin won the Class A girls discus. She didn’t better the state record Friday, but she did set a Class A meet record with 169 feet, 11 inches.
Two pole vault meet records were established. Ciana Stiefel of Custer won in Class A girls by clearing 12 feet, eight inches. Chase Maher of Rapid City Christian set the Class A boys meet mark with 15 feet, seven inches.
O’Gorman leads in both AA team standings after two days. Sioux Falls Christian is on top of the girls and boys Class A standings. Chester leads in girls Class B, with Menno leading the boys’ race.
