MITCHELL – Four Corners was even through seven innings of its Class B Amateur State Tournament game with Mt. Vernon Thursday at Cadwell Park.
Then, things became most uneven for the Pony Hills League champions.
Mt. Vernon scored five runs in the seventh inning, then eight more to finish the game in the eighth inning in eliminating Four Corners 17-6.
A dropped fly ball led to the big seventh inning for Mt. Vernon. Then, Mt. Vernon had five hits and drew four walks in the eighth inning to assure a second-round berth.
Andrew McCloud had two hits and two RBI for Four Corners. JD Farley had two hits and an RBI.
