With support from the National Corn Growers Association, the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) brought meat importers from Mexico and Central and South America to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for an educational seminar on the attributes and advantages of U.S. beef and pork.
Sebastian Gré, USMEF program coordinator in Chile, accompanied a team of importers from his market. He says the seminar offered a hands-on experience that helped drive home the importance of procuring high-quality raw material, whether for further processing or to prepare pork and beef offerings for retail or foodservice.
USMEF Technical Programs Manager Paige Parker explains that following the seminar, tours of Fareway Meat Market and a Hy-Vee supermarket highlighted pork and beef merchandising techniques. Importers also got a firsthand look at cattle feeding practices at Champion Feeders near Mead, Neb., and toured the Wholestone Farms pork plant near Fremont.
