TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — U.S. President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping haven’t resolved any of the vital geopolitical issues dividing the world’s two largest economies. But they appear to have put a floor under a years long spate of antagonisms between the chief global rivals for influence over issues from ranging from fair trade and technology to U.S. support for Taiwan and human rights. At the meeting on the sidelines of a Pacific Rim summit, Xi declared that “Planet Earth is big enough for the two countries to succeed.” Biden said the talks were constructive. It was welcome news for other countries at times caught up in the sparring between Washington and Beijing.
