PIERRE, S.D. — Pierre Governor standout tight end Jett Zabel signed his National Letter of Intent to play collegiately for the North Dakota State Bison in a ceremony Wednesday (Dec. 20, 2023) at the T.F. Riggs High School library.
In three seasons as a starter, Zabel amassed school career records of 138 receptions and 35 receiving touchdowns. His 18 receiving scores in this, his senior year, is also a single-season school record, as he helped the Governors win a state record seventh straight championship. Zabel also threw a school and state record 99-yard touchdown pass in the championship game. The 6-foot-5 215-pound All Stater will be joining his brother, Bison offensive lineman Grey Zabel, at the next level.
NDSU is a perennial power at the Football Championship Subdivison level, but was beaten in overtime by Montana in last weekend’s semifinal round. For the Governors, Zabel has displayed the size and strength of a tight end with the speed of a wide receiver, a combination that could make him a major weapon in the Bison offense in the near future.
