GOVERNOR GIRLS WIN THEIR OWN PIERRE INVITATIONAL WRESTLING TOURNAMENT
PIERRE – A busy weekend of wrestling at Riggs High Gym started Friday afternoon (Jan. 19, 2024) with the Pierre Invitation Girls Wrestling Tournament. Over 180 wrestlers representing 31 teams competed with the Pierre Governor girls topping the charts. Pierre had just one tournament champion in Abbi Lewis at the 152 pound weight class, but five others came in runner-up positions in their respective brackets. Lewis is now a perfect 24-0 on the season.
Harrisburg tallied 101.5 points to finish a distant second. A good majority of ranked wrestlers from around the state competed in the tournament, but one major highlight came in the championship of the 126 pound class, where Regina Stoeser of Harrisburg defeated Britney Rueb of Bon Homme/Scotland, 9-4, in a matchup of two wrestlers who are both nationally ranked. Stoeser, who has family ties in Pierre/Ft. Pierre, is now 19-0 on the season.
