South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has confirmed that a South Dakota law enforcement officer was killed in the line of duty Friday afternoon (Feb. 2, 2024) stemming from a vehicle pursuit in Moody County.
Names of the deceased officer and their law enforcement agency have not yet been released.
“Our hearts go out to the officer’s family and all those serving in the officer’s department,” said Jackley. “The State Division of Criminal Investigation, Highway Patrol, and local law enforcement agencies are cooperating to provide a complete and thorough investigation. One person has been arrested in connection with the incident.”
Jackley said there is no immediate threat to the public stemming from this incident. The Attorney General’s Office is continuing to work in cooperation with local prosecutors throughout this investigation.
