Discussion on the Walworth County Jail continued at Tuesday’s (July 9th) meeting of the Walworth County Commission, with the focus turning toward bringing in an outside consultant to help with the business plan of a larger facility. Toby Morris of Colliers Securities is an expert in infrastructure financing. He told the commissioners he would like to have former Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom join the conversation as someone who has experience in running a larger jail facility.
Morris told the commissioners that putting a bond issue on the November election ballot would not be successful this year, but he does have ideas on moving forward.
Morris would like to see Walworth County and the City of Mobridge work together.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, Highway Superintendent Tom Hannan informed the commissioners of some extra federal funds coming to the County.
Two credit cards were approved for the Highway Department. Hannan said the cards will mostly be utilized for purchasing fuel.
The commissioners began discussion on the 2025 budget and will continue at the next regular meeting, scheduled for July 23rd.
