South Dakota Secretary of State Monae L. Johnson has been appointed to serve as co-chair of the National Association of Secretaries of State’s (NASS) State Records and Archives Committee.
“I look forward to this opportunity to serve alongside other secretary of states and collaborate on best practices and ways to improve processes on preserving important documents and information,” said Johnson.
The State Records and Archives Committee provides a forum for members to share information and best practices regarding state heritage programs and venues, including: state archives, museums, libraries, historical sites and state records. Digital preservation of documents is also a key issue for this body. Members work with the Council of State Archivists (CoSA), Society of American Archivists (SAA) and the National Association of Government Archives and Records Administrators (NAGARA), as well as the Library of Congress and the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
“NASS and our members are a team. Choosing individual teammates to serve in these critical roles allows us to further strengthen our mutual understanding and knowledge on key issue areas relevant to the offices of Secretaries of State,” said Steve Simon, NASS President and Minnesota Secretary of State. “I look forward to working closely with each Co-Chair during my tenure as President.”
Johnson will serve alongside District of Columbia Secretary of State Kimberly Bassett. The pair will serve until the conclusion of the NASS 2025 Summer Conference.
